Matternet launches M3 drone delivery platform with U.S

Matternet launched its M3 autonomous drone delivery platform on September 28, 2026. The Mountain View, California-based company announced initial launch partners in the United States and United Kingdom as it targets the second half of 2027 for commercial service.

The M3 platform consists of an autonomous aircraft, docking station, and portal for package handling. The system is built for instant delivery across food, retail, healthcare, and industrial logistics. Packages are placed in an M3 Portal, after which the system autonomously handles delivery.

The M3 Dock stores and charges the aircraft between flights. It has installation options on rooftops or at ground level. The M3 Portal is described as a low-cost, off-grid drop-box for depositing multiple packages at once for asynchronous pickup. Matternet states the M3 Portal’s freestanding design should simplify installation and speed deployment.

The aircraft can carry packages up to 11 pounds and operate within a radius of up to 10 miles. Its cargo bay accepts ordinary merchant packaging, including food and retail bags and boxes. It also supports specialized configurations for healthcare and industrial payloads.

Initial launch partners announced in U.S. And U.K.

Dave’s Hot Chicken is the initial U.S. Launch partner, building on a pilot program from the previous year. In the United Kingdom, Apian is the launch partner. Apian already operates a drone delivery network in Central London with the National Health Service.

Matternet scales production and prepares for commercial rollout

The company plans to build M3 aircraft manufacturing capacity in the United States. It will draw on its strategic partnership with SoftBank Robotics America, announced in April 2026, to accelerate network deployment in the U.S. And other key markets.

Matternet's founder and chief executive, Andreas Raptopoulos, framed the ambition. "We started Matternet to build a new layer of transportation above our cities," he said. The company is the only worldwide operator of an FAA Type-Certificated drone delivery system, having received both standard type and production certification for its preceding M2 platform.

Over more than a decade, Matternet has operated commercial drone delivery networks in the United States and Europe across healthcare, logistics, and residential delivery. The company began trading on the OTCQB Venture Market under the ticker symbol "MTTN" earlier in September 2026, following a go-public reverse merger.

Raptopoulos emphasized a utility vision. "Drone delivery should be a utility: largely invisible, dependable and low-cost," he stated. M3 is intended for restaurants, retailers and hospitals to create roof-top micro-hubs without on-site operators.

Matternet plans to announce additional M3 partnerships in the coming months focused on high-volume, instant delivery use cases.
