DJI has released a free firmware update for its Osmo Pocket 4 camera. The update, version 01.03.14.04, introduces a dedicated HDR 10-bit color mode for video and enhances the device's slow-motion and gimbal capabilities.

According to the source report from DroneDJ, the new HDR 10-bit mode provides another way for users to leverage the camera's existing 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor, which captures up to 14 stops of dynamic range. DJI notes the resulting footage is best viewed on an HDR-compatible display. The same firmware also adds HDR Enhancement for still photos.

Expanded Creative Control for Slow Motion

A significant addition is the extension of the 10-bit D-Log color profile to slow-motion recording. Previously limited to normal video mode, D-Log can now be used when shooting at up to 4K and 240 frames per second. This gives creators more flexibility to color-grade high-frame-rate clips and match them with other D-Log footage.

Refined Gimbal and System Updates

The update also refines the camera's physical controls. The Pocket 4's joystick can now command 45-degree diagonal gimbal movements, allowing for more natural camera pans compared to the previous limitation to strictly horizontal or vertical motion.

DJI states the September update includes general image-quality optimizations and fixes for known issues. The company provided specific instructions for accessory owners during the installation process, warning that the battery handle and fill light should not be disconnected until the update is complete.

Pocket 4 Core Specifications

The firmware enhancements build upon the Pocket 4's existing hardware features. Key specifications of the device include:

FeatureSpecification
Sensor1-inch stacked CMOS
Max Slow Motion4K at 240 fps
StabilizationThree-axis mechanical
Display2-inch OLED touchscreen
AutofocusIntelligent with ActiveTrack (up to 4x zoom)
Internal Storage107 GB
Max Operating Time240 minutes

Separate firmware updates are required for compatible accessories. The Osmo FrameTap remote should be updated to version 01.02.08.02 via the DJI Mimo app, and DJI Mic transmitters must be running specified firmware versions. The update represents a series of incremental but valuable improvements for a camera that has only been available for a few months.
