Wing Walmart Drone Delivery Expands to Denver Seattle
Wing and Walmart will launch drone delivery in the Denver and Seattle metropolitan areas in 2027, expanding their U.S.

Wing and Walmart announced plans on Monday to bring drone delivery to the Denver and Seattle metro areas starting in 2027. This expansion will bring the service to nearly 20 U.S. Metropolitan areas, targeting more than 270 Walmart stores and 40 million customers nationwide.
Service details and customer access
Eligible Walmart customers in the new regions will see drone delivery as an option when ordering online or through the Walmart app. They can order thousands of products, including groceries, household goods, electronics, and over-the-counter medications. Customers will also be able to order through Wing directly.
Aircraft capabilities and current operations
Wing’s Hummingbird aircraft cruise at up to 60 mph and can carry packages weighing up to five pounds. The current fleet already completes thousands of residential deliveries each day across existing markets, providing access to more than three million customers.
| Capability | Specification |
|---|---|
| Maximum Speed | 60 mph (97 km/h) |
| Maximum Payload | 5 pounds (2.3 kg) |
Local regulatory context in Colorado and Washington
Local governments retain authority over land-use issues for ground infrastructure. In the Denver area, suburbs like Northglenn are considering rules for commercial drone delivery hubs focusing on location, operating hours, noise, and security. Thornton and Longmont had received pre-applications for facilities. Castle Rock passed an emergency ordinance in July freezing drone-hub applications for six months. Two Denver suburbs voted to freeze applications before Wing officially named the city.
In the Seattle region, Federal Way is expected to benefit from the service. Seattle brings frequent rain, while Denver presents colder temperatures and winter weather. Restricting a launch site within one city's limits would not necessarily prevent deliveries from facilities in neighboring communities.
Broader network growth and future scale
The partnership now covers 19 U.S. Metros. Drone deliveries are currently available in five metropolitan areas: Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Dallas-Fort Worth; Houston; and Orlando, Florida. Orlando is the only market to go from announced to operational since the partnership's announcements, doing so in July.
Fourteen other metros are announced and waiting for launch. These were revealed in three batches:
| Announcement Date | Metropolitan Areas Announced |
|---|---|
| June 2025 | Tampa |
| January 11, 2026 | Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Miami |
| June 8, 2026 | Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Salt Lake City |
Neither Denver nor Seattle was on Wing and Walmart’s January or June lists. Heather Rivera, Chief Business Officer at Wing, said the new metros show "how quickly people across the country are adopting drone delivery."
Walmart’s existing store network can double as mini-warehouses. The service aims to replace a driver and car with automated dispatch for short, lightweight orders. Greg Cathey, Senior Vice President of eCommerce Transformation at Walmart, said, "Expanding drone delivery to Seattle and Denver is about giving more customers a practical option when they need something quickly."
The real test is achieving scale. Hundreds of daily drops across many stores can spread fixed costs like software and operations teams. Wing’s 270-store target could make delivery economics a significant factor for Walmart’s margins. If drone delivery lowers variable fulfillment costs on small orders, it may be treated as a core driver of retail profitability.
The Federal Aviation Administration controls U.S. Airspace and aircraft operations. Its public list of drone-delivery environmental reviews shows authorizations for existing markets but none for the 14 announced metros. A national programmatic environmental assessment signed by the FAA in July may allow Wing to skip metro-by-metro filings, though Wing has not confirmed if it will use this pathway.
Wing and Walmart are working toward more than 270 Walmart drone delivery locations nationwide.
