Smart Shooter Secures $150M SMASH Counter-Drone Contract
Smart Shooter won a 36-month, $150 million IDIQ contract from the U.S. Department of War's JIATF-401 to supply its SMASH rifle-mounted counter-drone systems, expanding its role in the Domestic Shield program.

Smart Shooter secured a major U.S. Defense contract to supply its SMASH counter-drone systems. The U.S. Department of War's Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401) awarded the company a 36-month, single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract on September 29. The agreement has a maximum ordering ceiling of up to $150 million. It supports JIATF-401’s Domestic Shield programme for force protection, base defence, and counter-unmanned aerial system (UAS) missions. This contract does not represent an immediate purchase or a committed order value. Future deliveries will be determined through individual task orders.
System Capabilities
The SMASH system is a lightweight, rifle-mounted fire-control unit. It uses artificial intelligence, computer vision, and advanced target-tracking algorithms. The technology brings precise kinetic counter-drone capability to the individual soldier using a standard service weapon. It tracks targets and calculates firing solutions. Crucially, it synchronizes the shot release only when the weapon is precisely aligned with the target. The operator retains full decision-making authority to engage. The system also preserves the weapon's normal use against ground targets. It can connect with external sensors and battle management systems. Smart Shooter is the sole supplier of the SMASH systems, training, and related services under this contract.
Strategic Impact
This award marks a significant expansion of Smart Shooter's activity in the U.S. Defence market. It follows a series of new and follow-on awards over the past year to support the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. Thousands of SMASH systems are already deployed across these services. The contract is part of the broader Domestic Shield Program, which coordinates counter-UAS efforts across the U.S. Military and federal agencies. Michal Mor, CEO and Co-Founder of Smart Shooter, stated that the award is a major milestone. "Domestic Shield is about giving defenders the tools to stop small, fast-moving drones before they can harm forces, bases, and critical assets," Mor said.
Contract Scope and Global Reach
The scope of the IDIQ agreement includes hardware, software and updates, training, and support services. It follows an earlier Smart Shooter contract with JIATF-401 that was announced in March 2026. U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Matt Ross, director of JIATF-401, explained the strategic rationale. "Our approach allows us to identify the right capabilities for specific operational requirements and rapidly deliver those capabilities to the warfighter," Ross said. The SMASH family of systems is also deployed by defense and security forces in Israel, the UK, Germany, and other NATO and allied nations. Smart Shooter, a designer and manufacturer of fire control systems, has offices in Israel, the United States, Europe, and Australia. The contract will be fulfilled through individual delivery orders as determined by future requirements from the U.S. Military services.
