DJI has released its first Mini 3 Pro firmware update in over two years, refreshing the aircraft to v01.00.1000 and updating compatible remote controllers and the DJI Fly app. The update, issued on October 20, 2026, marks the drone's first firmware change since July 23, 2024. It was released alongside DJI Fly app version 1.21.16 and updates for the Mini 2 and Mavic Air 2 models.

Compatible remote controllers also received new firmware versions. The DJI RC Pro updated to v03.02.0900, the DJI RC to v01.03.2600, and the DJI RC-N1 to v04.14.0700. Pilots must use DJI Fly app version 1.21.16 or above on iOS or Android devices to apply the update.

Update scope and limitations

The update focuses on fixing known issues without introducing new shooting modes or headline features. DJI's release notes are brief. "Fixed some known issues," the company said. The firmware does not add any exciting new shooting mode or headline-grabbing feature. DJI has not explained which specific issues have been fixed.

If the update fails, DJI recommends a standard troubleshooting procedure. Pilots should restart the aircraft, the remote controller, and the DJI Fly app or DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) before trying again.

Context on Mini 3 Pro's lifecycle

The Mini 3 Pro launched in May 2022 as a significant step forward for DJI's lightweight drone lineup. It weighs less than 249 grams and packs advanced features like True Vertical Shooting, a 1/1.3-inch sensor, 48MP photos, and 4K video at up to 60fps. It also offers three-directional obstacle sensing, ActiveTrack subject tracking, and a flight time of up to 34 minutes with the standard battery or 47 minutes with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus.

DJI has since discontinued the Mini 3 Pro as its lineup evolved. The Mini 4 Pro took over its position, and the latest Pro model is the Mini 5 Pro. The Mini 3 Pro has had 13 firmware releases since its launch. Its last feature-added update was on April 25, 2023, adding support for DJI Goggles 2, Goggles Integra, and RC Motion 2.

Since September 2023, DJI has released five more firmware updates for the model. Four of these only fixed known issues, and one optimized compatibility with Huawei Mate 60 series phones. Two fix-only releases were shipped 12 days apart in July 2024 after a long update silence.

The current landscape for pilots

A used Mini 3 Pro is still considered a sensible buy for US pilots, provided the drone is priced for current flight conditions. The drone has been sold in the US since 2022 and qualifies for an FCC waiver. The FCC Public Notice DA 26-454, released May 8, 2026, extends firmware update eligibility for pre-December 22, 2025 authorized drones until January 1, 2029.

The Mini 5 Pro, which does not appear on DJI’s US download center, represents the current generation. It features a larger 1-inch-type sensor, 4K video at up to 120fps, 50MP photos, improved omnidirectional obstacle sensing with forward-facing LiDAR, a gimbal capable of 225-degree rotation, 360-degree ActiveTrack, and improved low-light shooting capabilities.

DJI has maintained the Mini 3 Pro for nearly 4.5 years since its launch, with its last new feature added in April 2023. For pilots applying the new update, the advice is clear. Restart your devices if the installation fails.
